BurgGymnasium Kaiserslautern is a co-educational state-funded secondary grammar school in the heart of Kaiserslautern, opposite the city hall.
History
BurgGymnasium was established in 1875 as a girls’ secondary school and since 1970 it is co-educational. Throughout the years, the school has been expanded continually and recently the impressive façade of the original building of our school (A-Bau) has been refurbished.
International projects
s a school community we take great pride in our long tradition of international exchange projects with schools in other countries. So BurgGymnasium has taken an active part in twinning activities with schools in France, in Sweden and in Beijing, China. For many years we have also successfully cooperated with American schools in the Kaiserslautern aera. These German-American projects have now officially been acknowledged and BurgGymnasium is formally linked with the state project “Welcome to Rhineland-Palatinate. Our Neighbors from America” (WiR!). Further information on our cooperation e.g. with Sembach Middle School and Kaiserslautern High School can be found in our annual report.
Due to a large variety of activities such as art, sport, music, “school without racism – school with courage” and our exchange programs, BurgGymnasium has been accepted to take the first steps in becoming a UNESCO-associated project school.
